Review: Curology

As a skincare lover, I’m always on the lookout for new products that would improve my skin. After hearing that I can have my own formula for my skin needs I couldn’t say yes fast enough. My main skin concern is redness and small pimples on the cheeks. Oh, and large pores! No matter what products I’ve tried I still have these problems just more or less oblivious. I never thought of going to a dermatologist because of the cost but luckily there’s Curology!

   Review Curology

First, I would like to say thank you to Jenny (Geeky Posh Blog) for referring my blog to Curology. Curology reached out to me and ask if I would like to collaborate. Of course, my answer was yes after taking a look at their website. Having your own custom skincare product that’s formulated for your unique skin, who could say no to that?

What is Curology

“Clear your skin with a powerful cream mixed just for you!”

Curology is a simple and easy to use subscription service that customizes your own “super bottle” to treat whatever problems you have with your skin. All you have to do is go to their website, answer a skin quiz, and submit some photos of your face. You’ll be matched with your personal licensed dermatology provider. Next, the dermatology provider will give you a prescription with ingredients that are made just for your skin, along with information on what each ingredient does for your skin. You will also receive recommendations on what to do and not to do before or during the time you’re using the formula. They will send a notification when the bottle has been shipped. Ta-da! Your very own skincare prescription will arrive in no time at your door or the mail, however, your mailman delivers it.

Everything is done online and they send the product directly to you. That’s what I love about Curology!

Ingredients:

Curology uses 6 ingredients to create your custom prescription formulas! On their website, they have a full description of each ingredient, so I’m just giving you a simple list.

Vitamin C (anti-aging)
Tretinoin (prevents wrinkles)
Clindamycin (treats acne and clogged pores)
Niacinamide (treats acne and dark spots)
Zinc Pyrithione (restores balance to the skin)
Azelaic Acid (treats acne, dark spots, and clogged pores)

Preparing for the new skincare routine:

The signing up process was easy and simple. I made an account, answered some questions, and uploaded pictures of my skin in natural daylight. After that, I received a message from my personal provider. She prescribed me Azelaic Acid, Clindamycin, and Niacinamide. These are ingredients that target all my skin concerns with acne, large pores, and some dark spots.

After my formula was shipped, I received an email on how to prepare for my new routine with a list of why my old skincare routine was not working. I discovered things I didn’t know about skincare. Myristate is an ingredient in foam cleansers that can cause irritation. No wonder my skin was always irritated! I’m not going to lie I was a little sad knowing that because foam cleansers are fun to use. Also, Benzoyl Peroxide and Salicylic Acid, while it may work for some, doesn’t work for everyone and can be irritating. That’s pretty much every acne treatment products at the drugstore! Thanks to Curology I’ve removed products with those ingredients from my skincare routine and I’m very happy about it.

What the recommended skincare routine looks like:

I followed this exact routine for about 2-3 weeks before I added products to my routine to treat my dry skin. I added aloe gel (in place of a toner), eye cream, and cream. Sounds like a lot compared to the recommended skincare routine, but trust me I’ve cut down quite a lot. I used to do the 10 steps routine from the Kbeauty influence. I realized that was too much now, also time-consuming but that is for another post.

My experience:

Before I started using my personal formula, I had redness on the cheeks and forehead due to irritation. I had tiny pimples on the cheeks. As far as I could remember my skin oddly always breakout in that areas. I also have large pores on the cheeks as well and blackheads on my nose, like oblivious blackheads if I neglect on using nose strips.

I started using the formula on September 18th. It took my skin a week or so to get used to it, which my provider did mention that I could experience breakouts at first. By the 3rd week, my skin began to like the formula. The most oblivious change was the redness on my skin. The formula reduced the redness, there were tiny pimples here and there, some dark spots, and the pores looked the same.

One week after I’ve taken those pictures, my skin did continue to improve. The redness was reduced even more since my skin was less likely to get irritated now. The tiny pimples were gone, but pores still looked the same.

In the beginning of October, I traveled to New York City so I neglected my skincare routine a little. After I came back home I was really busy and did not remove my makeup a couple nights. As you can predict, my skin broke out again after I just noticed the improvement. I had some redness and small pimples appeared, again.

I made sure to use the formula every night until I can see improvement on my skin again. After 3 days The redness was reduced, small pimples were healing, and pores were less obvious! I began to see fewer blackheads as well. Before I know it, the formula minimized the appearance of my pores and blackheads as well

The result:

Now I’m only using the formula every other day since my skin has improved a lot compared to before. I still get tiny pimples here and there but it’s not a big deal. The scars from previous pimples are fading. The redness is reduced dramatically! It was a surprise to see the reduced appearance of my pores and blackheads. I wasn’t expecting to see those improvements since other products that I’ve tried before never helped with those concerns.

Overall

I’m very pleased with the result I got from using the formula. If you have followed me from the beginning since I started my blog, you would probably know that I always mentioned how breaking out and redness are huge concerns of mine. Now, I’m very content with my skin.

I highly recommend Curology, I love that they create a formula that targets the concerns of your skin. It could be anti-aging, dark spots fading, acne, whatever treatments you need.

Pros (for my formula):
-reduced redness
-treat acne
-minimizes pores and blackheads

Cons (for my formula):
-drying for my skin if I don’t use other moisturizing products

Rating:
4.8/5
